This is the image I used to create the limited edition fine art print for the signed and numbered art print reward on kickstarter. The finished product was very satisfying.

Movie production is moving right along! I’ve finally starting animating a scene with Twomey’s trainer, Al. For me, Al is one of the most important characters to the story. I want him to be just right, so I’ve put him through quite a few rounds of re-design. I always knew that his character design wouldn’t be 100% until his first shot in the film was underway— and now it is.
I’m including a lineup here of Al designs, chronologically from left to right. I drew the one on the far left about three years ago. Then I started revising him about six months ago, producing the next several images. I was almost settled on number 6 (second from the right), until I started his first scene. Then I went back and redrew him as a very close revision of that 3-year-old original design. I’m very happy with the outcome. And a huge ‘thank you’ goes out to David Blackwell who gave Al his voice. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0085893/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1

Hello Tumblrs and Kickstarters! Merry Christmas and/or whatever else you might be celebrating. It’s been too long since I’ve sent out a note letting you know how the Boxer movie is going— so here you go! Mostly all Kickstarter rewards have been delivered, with the obvious exception of finished movie DVDs. The only other reward that has not been totally completed and sent out is the ‘Art Of’ digital deliverable. I keep thinking it’s done and then I complete more of the movie and end up adding to the ‘Art Of’ stash. So… it’ll happen soon. In the meantime, I hope everyone has enjoyed the odds and ends that I’ve sent.
As for the movie- this is the most fun I’ve ever had working on a project! As you know, animation of this kind can take a very long time, but production at this point is going faster than ever. I’m working with a great background painter (Brennan Hornburg) and two amazing animators (James Pierson and Blake Bush) and I’m really proud of what we’ve accomplished this year. I’ve included one of Brennan’s backgrounds here .
Thanks again for your support and I hope life is treating you all very well!
Genuinely,
Lance

The past few weeks I’ve been working with a really talented London animator named James Pierson on these crowd scenes for Boxer Story. It’s been a fun experience.

Kickstarter rewards are finally going out. As you can see in the photos below I’m a one-man reward-fulfilling machine. I finally got the work-in-progress DVD authored— and that was the last remaining piece of the puzzle. Now it’s just a matter of printing labels, taping boxes, and making the trips to the post office.

As you know, the Kickstarter campaign was successful and I now have a small budget to work with… so I’ve hired a few very talented artists to help me get this movie pushed forward towards completion. Here’s the first background for the movie that I did not paint— created by the amazing Diego Almazan. I think he nailed it.

POSTERS/POSTCARDS AWAY!
No, this isn’t a picture of me throwing poster tubes away in the waste basket at the post office. It’s me in line with a bunch of posters, ready to mail! Those of you who selected the postcard or the poster reward tier are in luck. They are now in transit! Godspeed!

So I picked up the movie posters and the postcards on Friday. They look great! I can’t wait to send them out. The photo here shows them on a card table in my garage.
And I worked all weekend on a shot in the movie that takes place just outside Lisette’s Cafe, featuring a jazz band playing in the street. The song they play is called Silverware by Golden Arm Trio, and yes, this fantastic tune is on the soundtrack. I’ll be posting the soundtrack page very soon so those of you who missed out on the soundtrack reward will be able to buy it on bandcamp. Life is good.
I am still basking in the glow of having successfully funded this project and it is all thanks to you people. Amazing! Thanks a million.
